A sport and event venue

The Matmut Stadium, the permanent residence of Lyon rugby club and its professional players - LOU Rugby, dedicated to hosting rubgy matches (of the French Top 14), has also developped a reception offer for greetings parties, company anniversaries, afterworks, fashion shows, conventions, meetings, seminars, team building activities, professional exhibitions and other types of business events.

Since its opening in 2017, the brand-new and fully-equiped event spaces have hosted conventions and events of Danone, Orange, Konica Minolta, Renault Trucks and many others. With 3,000 sqm of spaces without pillars, an integrated technical equipment and a free parking for 700 places, the event facility can host from 80 to 1,800 people.

More comfort and services, altogether with respecting the work of the mythic architect Tony Garnier

In order to host rugby matches in the best conditions, the stadium is currently undergoing majors works of renovation, which is classified as an historic monument since the end of the late 60’s.

Under the leadership of Albert Constantin (the architect who designed the stadium’s two new stands for the World Cup in 1998), the renovation concerns the West and East stands, as well as public hospitality areas (lounges and spectator boxes). While modernising and refurbishing the stadium, GL events has paid careful attention to respecting the original architectural work of Tony Garnier, considered as forerunner of 20th century French architecture.

A key consideration in the refurbishment work is the comfort for the spectators. The new stands will be closer to the pitch (in the style of so-called "English stadiums") and also higher and wider. As such, they will ensure spectators have a better view. At the same time, 4 elevators will be installed to improve access to the stands.  These changes mean the stadium’s capacity will be reduced to 35,000 seats, in order to provide better services to visitors.

The original character of the Matmut Stadium will also be restored through a complete façade refurbishment (supervised by heritage architects). This includes the addition of exterior lighting and quality signage, as well as landscape work on the embankments. Inspired by the ancient stadium of Olympia, the refurbishments will restore the site’s original architectural quality. "This major venue will become an attractive, welcoming stadium for fans," says Jérôme Schmidt, the Director of Real-Estate projects at GL events.

The Tribes Party to celebrate the inauguration of the renovated stadium

The Tribes party will be held from 22nd to 24th September within the Matmut Stadium, a unique occasion to rediscover this major place of sport activities in Lyon. Within music, sports and leisure atmosphere, the week-end will be placed under the label of celebration, family, diversity and sharing.
