INTERVIEW CLAUDE FEURER
Strasbourg Convention & Exhibition centre joined the spaces of the GL events Venues Network.
SYNERGIES BETWEEN STRASBOURG EVENEMENTS AND GL EVENTS
What has changed since the GL events Group became a shareholder in Strasbourg Evénement? What have been the initial effects of the partnership?
The main impact of this new partnership has undoubtedly been the "Network" effect. We have benefited from the Group's expertise as regards the Convention Centre extension project that is currently underway in Strasbourg, but also in terms of purchasing, the creation of new events (The Chocolate Show) and the response to the call for tender for the public service management concession.
This contribution will enable us to significantly improve the future facility placed at our disposal and the profitability of our business.
STRASBOURG: A MAJOR EXTENSION PROJECT
Can you give us an update on the progress of the works at the Strasbourg Convention & Exhibition Centre?
The extension of the Convention Centre (a 3rd building) will be opened to the public on 1 May 2015. It will provide 8,000m² of surface area, with new meeting rooms and an exhibition area of 3,000m² (with no supporting columns). It will also house all the teams of Strasbourg Evénements.
A second phase of works was launched in the existing building at the start of 2015, and the new Strasbourg Concert and Convention Centre (Palais de la Musique et des Congrès) will be delivered in the summer of 2016.
A NEW STAGE
What does this 20-year contract renewal mean for Strasbourg Evénements?
The 20-year public-service management concession awarded to Strasbourg Evénements, under the governance of GL events, will enable us make investments for the medium and long term, not just in terms of equipment but also to develop our position in the national and international congress market, and the corporate event market and to create new events, primarily specialist fairs and trade fairs.
This long-term relationship will strengthen our collaboration with the Local Authority, and particularly with the new Strasbourg Eurométropole, which has replaced the former Urban Community.
